President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said that his defeat of former President, Goodluck Jonathan in the last general elections was made possible by the US and some European countries whose sustained pressure on the immediate past administration made the elections free and fair. Buhari made the remark at the Oval Office of the White House while responding to President Obama's welcome address.
"Nigeria will be ever grateful to President Obama and the United States for making Nigeria to consolidate its gains on democracy. Without the external pressure, we would not be where we are today ", President Buhari said.
Officials of both countries are expected to begin bilateral discussions on the second day of President Buhari's visit to the US.
