We only retired 38 senior officers - Army
The Nigerian Army has denied a list of 41 senior officers compulsorily retired, circulating in the media.
In a series of tweets, the Army lamented that those it described as mischievous people are going about unnecessarily whipping up sentiment about the retirement exercise.
In an earlier statement, the Army had said that those who were retired were indicted by the EFCC in the arms procurement scandal and for being partisan in the 2015 general elections.
In one of the tweets, the Army confirmed that only 38 senior officers were retired.

Grazing reserves: FG to meet top Fulani leaders
The Federal Government has said that it is planning a meeting with key Fulani leaders to seek their support for its plan to establish grazing reserves of herdsmen.
The grazing reserves according to government will end the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe made this known in Abuja during a retreat on livestock and dairy development.
“We are in trouble. Every country gets into trouble from time to time, even the most developed. But that’s not an excuse for where we are. However, we are in trouble, our economy is down, our earnings are low, we have all kinds of conflicts and we are also hungry. As Mr. President said when he signed the budget this year, he said, ‘I feel your pains,’ and we can truly feel it.
“The cost of food is high, it is difficult to pay school fees, power supply is epileptic because of destruction of gas supply facilities and there are many more concerns. But whenever you are in trouble, that’s the time to think. Lamentations don’t help, which is why organized programmes like this are meant to fix some of these problems we have.
“In the next few days we shall be meeting key persons among the Fulani and we will talk to them to get their buy-ins into the programmes that we have as part of addressing these concerns.
”Some of those herdsmen are people looking for or rearing the herds for some of us who probably are not even Fulani and in so many cases who are not Fulani. So I believe that with the constructive engagement of the herdsmen and herds owners, they will get a better understanding and appreciate the policy of the Federal Government.”

States to get fresh bailout from FG
Following the bitting effects of the country's present economic crisis, the Federal Government has packaged a fresh financial support facility for state governments.
Only last year, most state governments got bailout funds from the Federal Government to clear arrears of salaries owed their workers.
Owing to the fall in the international price of oil and the attendant reduction in the monthly allocation available to the states from the Federation Account, most states are still unable to meet their financial obligations.
However, the Federal Ministry of Finance has assured that further relief would come their way soon provided they keyed into the 22-point reform agenda tagged the Fiscal Sustainability Plan, FSP.
The FSP was endorsed by the states themselves at a recent meeting of the National Economic Council, NEC.
The FSP requires the states to publish their audited financial statements and budgets, biometric and Bank Verification Number, BVN payroll review exercises for the workers, and restrict recurrent expenditures.
The states are also required to set and meet targets to increase their Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, establish Efficiency Units to reduce overhead costs, privatize State Owned Enterprises, domesticate Fiscal Responsibility Act, and limit further bank loans.
The Ministry said the Federal Government has agreed to develop International Public Sector Accounting Standards, IPSAS compliant software for the states.
It will also develop new bond issuance guidelines to ease access to the capital market for states wishing to fund developmental projects.
In the words of Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun, the "FSP represents an important programme of reforms that will develop best practice financial management across all tiers of Government and will improve transparency and accountability.
“Overall we believe that the survival of State Governments is essential to the economic recovery of Nigeria, specifically their ability to meet salary obligations."
EFCC seizes ex-Acting Governor's N500,000 , 000 Abuja mansion
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has seized a property valued at about half a billion naira from former speaker and Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri.
According to an EFCC source , the house situated at No. 7, Gana Street, Maitama, Abuja has been sealed with the inscription ‘EFCC, under investigation’ pasted on the gate.
The anti-graft agency arrested Fintiri about 10 days ago following a petition filed by former members of his cabinet alleging that he embezzled about N1.9 billion during his three months in office as the acting governor of Adamawa State
Fintiri was the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly before he became the acting governor of the state after Murtala Nyako was impeached along with his deputy, Bala Ngilari in 2014.
“Before his impeachment, Nyako left a balance of N1,957,045,82 in the state government’s project account with the Yola branch of Zenith Bank, with account number 1011325467. Out of the money, N497m was meant for the construction of a law faculty at the university, which was to be sited at the former Teachers’ College, Yola.
“However, when Fintiri took over as acting governor, he transferred the proposed faculty from Yola to the Mubi campus of the ADSU and later laid the foundation; but after that, the project never took off.
“Investigations revealed that on Fintiri’s orders, part of the N1.9bn was released to the Ministry of Works and a contract was awarded to a construction company, Mayim Construction Limited, for the construction of roads in Mararaba Garta and Kamale in the Michika Local Government Area of the state. The company, we believe, is owned by Fintiri, which is illegal.
“The roads in question have not been constructed,” said the EFCC source.
