President Buhari's visit to Daura in pictures

Soon after signing the N6.06 trillion 2016 budget, President Buhari departed Abuja for Katsina  where he attended the Economic and Investment summit organized by the state government.

He did not fail to visit Daura his hometown where he was given a royal reception by the Emir, His Eminence, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk.

Four dead, three injured in Jebba train accident - NRC

The Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC confirmed on Sunday that four persons died while there others were injured in Saturday's train accident at Jebba bridge.

The Assistant Director of Publicity in NRC, Mr Rauf Akinloye, told newsmen that the casualties were recorded in the rear section of the Northbound train.

Akinloye said that the deceased had been evacuated to the morgue while the injured were treated and discharged.

He also said that the damaged tracks were being repaired so as to restore North-South services.

Akinloye assured travellers of safety of their lives and properties despite Saturday's accident.

Meanwhile, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed had commiserated with the families of the victims.

They described the accident as unfortunate and urged the NRC to investigate the causes to avoid incidents like that in the future.

Dutse registers first 2016 rainfall

The Jigawa State capital, Dutse had its first rainfall for the year 2016 on Sunday.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that residents were seen celebrating the rainfall which lasted over an hour.

A resident, Mrs Zainab Abubakar, a housewife, told NAN that the rainfall had cooled down the hot temperature in the town.

Another resident, Abubakar said that it had been difficult for residents to cope with the hot weather condition of Dutse but they would now 'heave a sigh of relief.'

Rabiu Musa, a farmer told NAN that the rainfall was heavy enough for him to start making his ridges for the season.He added that if the rains continued, he would commence the year' s planting in good time this year.

President Muhammadu Buhari was with Emir of Daura, HRH Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk in his palace on Sunday.

Saraki condoles with victims of Jebba train collision.

Following the collision of two trains at the Jebba bridge in which about twelve persons lost their lives, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki on Sunday sent his condolences to the injured and families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

He called on the Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC to quickly determine the causes of the mishap and put measures in place to prevent a reoccurrence.

"As we work to improve rail system in Nigeria, we have to ensure that we pay attention to safety. Our plan is to make railway the centre of our transportation system conveying thousands of people around the country. With such a plan, the safety consideration must be top in our plan.

"It is my prayer that this kind of tragic incident will not be witnessed in Nigeria again. May Almighty Allah in His infinite mercy grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and uphold their families in this moment of grief and sorrow."
