Army set to dislodge Boko Haram from Sambisa forest
Nigerian troops are all set to dislodge Boko Haram terrorists and destroy all their camps and hideouts in the Sambisa forest.
The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mansur Dan’ali, told newsmen during an inspection tour of the under-construction Army barracks in Gusau on Saturday, that soldiers were about to invade the forest and clear it of all the insurgents terrorizing the Northeast.
He noted that the present administration has made immense impact on the war against terrorism and cattle rustling.
”We have been working seriously, going round the world, collaborating with other countries in fighting terrorism at the national, regional and international levels,’’ he said.
He added that the new barracks which would be completed in the next three months is a proof of President Buhari’s commitment to the welfare of the military.
”You know, President Muhammadu Buhari is seriously concerned about the welfare of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as we have noticed from the attention given to them lately."

Ezekwesili advises Buhari: Your economic policies are opaque and archaic
Oby Ezekwesili, a former Minister of Education has picked holes in President Muhammadu Buhari's economic policies.
Likening Buhari's present economic policies to what he offered during his stint as military Head of State between 1984 and 1985, Ezekwesili described them as opaque and archaic.
The ex-Minister who spoke at The Platform, an annual public policy forum presently going on in Abuja said that Buhari’s policies are hurting the poor and vulnerable people they are supposed to help.
She noted that the command and control economic policy which did not work for Buhari in 1984 would also not work in 2016.
“During that era, inflation spiralled. During that era, jobs were lost. During that era, the economic growth level dipped.
“That era wasn’t the best of eras in economic progress.
“What did not work in 1984 cannot possibly be a solution in a global economy that’s much more integrated.
“In over one year, the president is still holding to the premise that command and control is the only way out. In a year we have lost the single digits inflation status we maintained in past administrations,” she said.
Ezekwesili also faulted Buhari's foreign exchange policies which she said are killing local industries.
“The president comes into this economic philosophy on the premise that he does not want the poor to suffer. I can relate to that, a leader must, especially a leader who knows that most of his votes came not from the elite but from the poor.
“The problem though is that the intention and the outcome are diverged.
“The weakest and the most vulnerable suffer the impact of inflation the most. Enormous power is being abused as a result of opaque economic policies.
“Companies are suddenly finding themselves unable to produce because they’re unable to access foreign exchange.
“Mr. President should sit with his team and look at the economic evidence that speaks loudly. It’s time to sit back and review the well-intended idea of command and control economic principle," she concluded.
Police denies ordering arrest of petrol hawkers
Police authorities have issued a clarification on Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase's order on the arrest of illegal sellers of petroleum products.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawole made the clarification in a statement she issued in Abuja on Saturday.
“Further to the Nigeria Police Force directives on the activities of unscrupulous elements who engage in illegal sale of petroleum products, there is need to make some clarification that the directive was specifically targeted at those who are involved in hoarding and diverting the petroleum products.
“However, those with genuine intention to use the products for their legal and genuine business are allowed to purchase the products,” she said.
The police warned that every effort would be made to checkmate those who have been inflicting suffering on Nigerians.
Fulani not responsible for killings by herdsmen - Northern governors
The 19 governors from the northern states under the umbrella of the Northern States Governors Forum, NSGF have decried the labeling of Fulanis as the brains behind atrocities being committed by herdsmen across the country.
The Chairman of the NSGF and Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Kashim Shettima said after a meeting of the forum in Kaduna on Friday that it is an insult to consider criminals as Fulani.
“We want to unequivocally condemn the recent killings in Enugu and other parts of the country. But we equally condemn the politicization or permit me, the ‘ethinicisation’ of the whole crisis.
“It goes beyond Fulani. If anything happens, they say Fulani herdsmen. To me, it is an insult.
“Kidnapping in this country originated in the Southeast, were they called Igbo kidnappers? We have a great national challenge and we want to call on all and sundry to come and let us solve our common challenges as a people, because the blood of paternity that binds us together supersedes whatever differences that might divide us,” he said.
El-Rufai set to end kidnapping in Kaduna
Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has expressed his determination to ensure the safety of lives and property in Kaduna State by putting an end to the rampant kidnappings in the state.
During a town hall meeting in Kachia, Kachia Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, El-Rufai said the frequent abductions in the state have been giving his administration sleepless nights.
“We have put in place as part of our statutory function, security measure to put an end to the menace once and for all,’’ he said.
He added that a kidnap kingpin was recently arrested by police in the state while several arms were recovered from his gang.
