Army issues disclaimer on solidarity rallies

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a number of groups and individuals celebrating the routing out and decimation of Boko Haram terrorists on our soil. So much as we thank them for that, it is imperative to state that we do not begrudge such persons their desire to identify and associate themselves with this success.

However, the Nigerian Army wishes to disassociate itself from such celebrations and solidarity rallies.

We also would like to advice that they should tread with caution as this could be distractive to us. The public are please informed that the terrorists are surreptitiously fanning out of their last enclaves in Sambisa to cause havoc or seek refuge elsewhere.

Therefore, there is need for all to be more vigilant and security conscious to enable us clear the remnants of these terrorists wherever they might flee.

We would like to reassure the public that we will remain professional and focused in clearing the remnants of these criminals on the Nigerian soil.

Thank you for your usual and kind cooperation.

FG reconstitutes committee on National Honours Award

The Federal Government has reconstituted the National Honours Award committee.

The reconstituted committee was inaugurated in Abuja on Thursday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr David Babachir Lawal.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Press in the Office of the SGF, Mr Bolaji Adebiyi who represented Lawal at the inauguration, the SGF reminded the committee members of the two main purposes of the national awards.

"To recognize and honour citizens and friends of Nigeria who have distinguished themselves in their various endeavours and contributed immensely to the development of the nation.

"It is also intended to serve as motivation for all Nigerians to emulate the exemplary conduct and services of those being honoured and inspire them for such national recognition.

"For the national award to retain the prestige that it is accorded, recipients who conduct themselves in any dishonourable manner will be stripped of the national honour.

"This will be consistent with the stand of the present administration against all forms of corruption."

The 14 member committee has former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Alfa Belgore as Chairman and Mr Gabriel Loto as Secretary.

Jonathan's former aide Dudafa arrested in Lagos, flown to Abuja

The erstwhile Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Waripamowei Dudafa has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Waripamowei had hitherto been arraigned in absentia by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over his alleged involvement in the mismanagement of the $2.1b arms procurement fund from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Reports indicate that as at Monday night, Dudafa was being interrogated at EFCC's Abuja headquarters over $47million and 5.6million Euros (N10 billion)  withdrawn from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and allegedly shared to delegates to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Primaries on November 27, 2014.

The former presidential aide who had been at large was nabbed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by operatives of the DSS and handed over to men of the EFCC who immediately flew him to Abuja.

A source confirmed that Dudafa had been on the watch list of security agencies.

“Except for the vigilance of security agents at the airport, Dudafa would have gone through the checks unnoticed. But having been watch-listed, operatives of the DSS intercepted and arrested him.

“After handing him over to EFCC, Dudafa was immediately flown to Abuja for interrogation. He was brought in at about 9.15pm.

“The EFCC is excited by the arrest of Dudafa because he is central to many transactions as the SSA Domestic Affairs to ex-President Jonathan.”
