Ikpeba tips Super Eagles to win in Egypt

Former AS Monaco and Borussia Dortmund forward, Victor Ikpeba has praised the spirit with which the Super Eagles approached their AFCON 2017 qualification match against the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Friday.

AS Roma winger, Mohammed Salah snatched an equalizer for the Egyptians when he scored in the closing minutes of the match.

Ikpeba who is remembered for scoring a memorable goal against Egypt in an Atlanta ’96 Olympic qualifier in Cairo said that the Eagles will get a win on Tuesday in Alexandria if they maintain the same spirit.

“Difficult game, but the boys did very well. We should be proud of them. And congrats to Siasia for a good job in a short time.

“If these boys play with this same spirit, I am very confident that they will win in Egypt #ThankYouSuperEagles,” he said.

We will win in Alexandria - Siasia

The failure of the Egyptians to stick to the fair play rule and loss of concentration by Nigerian players cost the Super Eagles victory in Friday’s AFCON 2017 qualification match at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

The Nigerian team conceded a late equalizer, helping the Egyptians to force them to a 1 - 1 draw.

“Firstly I will have to say that in football there is no more home advantage or away advantage. We lost concentration in the last three minutes of the extra time. One of our players (Godfrey Oboabona) was down and instead of kicking the ball far away for fair play he kicked it to our side which is wrong.

“Fair play sometimes is not fair play. If you are losing almost at the end of the game you won’t do the fair play rule. Fair play or not fair play we should be marking a player like Mohamed Salah until the last seconds of the game. I think we should blame ourselves not the Egyptians."

He however pledged to turn the table in Alexandria, Egypt noting that there is no more home advantage in football.

“We will turn the table in Alexandria, of course we can. We have been in this situation before so why can’t we (win in Alexandria). We have to move forward after today’s game. Moving forward is that we have to get ourselves together and try to go to Egypt and win. This is a game of football when anything can happen. So we will go out there and try and win in Egypt. If we don’t win that means we are out of the game. We will try our best to go and win there. Everything is possible," he said.

Tragedy averted as Army foils two suicide attacks near Maiduguri

Troops working with local vigilantes have intercepted two female suicide bombers on the outskirts of Maiduguri.

The Acting Director of Nigerian Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman said this in a statement he issued in Maiduguri on Friday.

"The ever alert and vigilant troops of 7 Division Garrison based in Maiduguri, in conjunction with Civilian JTF, averted yet another suicide attack on the innocent citizens in Borno on Friday.

"The troops intercepted 2 female suicide bombers at about 1.20 this morning, almost 100 metres south of Umurari village, outskirts of Maiduguri.

"However, one of the suicide bombers on sighting our troops detonated her explosive device, killing herself instantly, while the second bomber in an attempt to escape was gunned down by one of the Garrison snipers.

"The combined team of Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army’s Explosive Ordinance Device team safely detonated the unexploded Improvised Explosive Devices strapped on the gunned down suicide bomber.

It is important to state that there was no casualty beyond the two suicide bombers. Presently, the troops and the Civilian JTF deployed in the village are now combing the general area to forestall further breach of security.

"The situation in the area is calm and law abiding citizens are going about their normal activities without fear,’’ he said.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENCY DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM ‪#‎ISTANDWITHBUHARI‬ GROUP

The Presidency formally dissociates itself from the #Istandwithbuhari advocacy group and demands that the group should immediately stop claiming any alliance with the Buhari Administration.

The Presidency also demands that the persons behind the controversial #Istandwithbuhari group should stop using President Muhammadu Buhari's name and that of his wife, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari to promote themselves and their activities.

Among other reasons, we have found it necessary to distance the Presidency from the #Istandwithbuhari group because its premature and ostentatious celebration of the present administration's achievements is totally inconsistent with President Buhari's philosophy of service with humility. While the present administration has indeed recorded significant successes in its priority areas of improving security across the nation, ending the Boko Haram insurgency, curbing official corruption and revamping Nigeria's economy, President Buhari is well aware that his government still has a lot of national challenges to overcome.

The President prefers to give his fullest attention to addressing those challenges without the unsolicited and unwelcome distraction of untimely praise-singing from groups with dubious and questionable motives.
