Benue South rerun: PDP congratulates David Mark.

National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Sunday in Abuja issued a statement congratulating David Mark on his victory in Saturday's Benue South Senatorial rerun election.

According to the statement, the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu-sheriff said that Mark's victory is a proof of the popularity of the PDP, not only in Benue but in other states of the country.

He thanked Nigerians for their renewed faith in the PDP and its candidates as demonstrated in recent elections across the country.

"It is instructive to note that the PDP has won 70 per cent of all the polls conducted since May 29, 2015.

"This is a development that underlines the fact of PDP deep roots and popularity as a brand, irrespective of the transitory setback of the 2015 general elections,'' he said.

He also called on both elected and appointed office holders from the party to reciprocate the gesture by serving the people well.

“Finally, we reiterate our call to all PDP elected and appointed office holders across the country to reciprocate the renewed support by Nigerians.

"They should redouble their efforts in patriotically exerting themselves in serving the people in line with the models provided by the ideology of our great party."

Achonu dismisses postponement of Imo rerun as laughable

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate in last Saturday's botched election for the Okigwe North Senatorial seat, Athan Nneji Achonu, aka Agu otu aka has dismissed the eleventh hour postponement of the election and those of some state House of Assembly seats as laughable.

Already, the Imo State chapter of the PDP has addressed a press conference in which it fingered the state government, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for complicity in aborting the rerun election.

An angry Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie at the press conference castigated the Rochas Okorocha government for scuttling the election.

“The postponement of the scheduled polls was the handiwork of the state government, whose top officials recruited miscreants and street urchins and stormed INEC premises midday with dangerous weapons and blocked the entrance gate with a heavy duty truck.

“It beats our imagination and the minds of all right thinking individuals, how such an ugly incident could successfully be accomplished in the presence of fully armed security personnel, including soldiers, and yet nobody was arrested.”

A non governmental organization, the Legislative Watch also accused Okorocha of masterminding the cancelation of the rerun election.

In a press statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Hon. Ngozika Ihuoma, the Legislative Watch expressed shock how government officials led irate youths to barricade INEC gate, which led to the elections being postponed.

“Why must INEC dance to the ugly tune of the APC because the Governor and his political party are afraid that the PDP was having an upper hand in the contest? This is no longer the practice of democracy," he observed.

In an apparent admittance of complicity in the storming of the INEC office in Owerri, the government through the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okorocha, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said; “it  has come to the knowledge of the state Government that youths operating under the aegis of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Youths, stormed the Owerri office of INEC as early as 7.00a.m. Friday,February 19, 2016, to protest over certain developments with regard to the re-run election for Okigwe zone Senatorial seat and two state constituencies in the state.”

Okorocha’s spokesman however failed to explain the presence of some government appointees who were seen directing the activities of the violent youths.

I didn't open suitcases containing N10b cash gifts for PDP delegates - GEJ's ex-ADC

Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s embattled ex-Aide-de-Camp (ADC) Col.  Ojogbane Adegbe has washed his hands off the N10 billion cash shared to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP delegates before the party's last presidential primaries.

According to a source close to the investigation, Adegbe told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to ask the former President's erstwhile Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa to account for the cash.

He said that the suitcases containing the cash were brought to him as messages for the President and he handed them over to Dudafa in accordance with military law which forbade him to open messages meant for the Commander in Chief except where otherwise instructed.

“The ADC has spoken with investigators. He said when the suit cases containing the N10 billion were brought as messages for the ex-President, he did not open them but he handed over the items to SA Domestic Affairs.

“He said as ADC, the military law forbids him from opening any message meant for the President, unless directed by the C-I-C.

“So, it is only the SA Domestic Affairs, who has sneaked out of the country, who will need to provide the list of beneficiaries. This is the status of the case.

“If Dudafa does not show up, we may declare him wanted in connection with the N10 billion cash or seek the court’s permission to attach his property.

“We are exploring mutual legal assistance with some countries to fish out Dudafa wherever he is hiding abroad,” said an EFCC source.
