The International Criminal Police Organization, ICPO-INTERPOL has issued a red alert for the arrest of the chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, PRTT, Abdulrasheed Maina who is currently wanted by the EFCC for his alleged role in a N28.8b fraud.

The Interpol issued the warrant through its headquarters in France and communicated the action to the EFCC through a three paragraph letter dated January 11th, 2016 and addressed to its chairman.

According to a reliable EFCC source, the warrant makes it possible for security agencies anywhere in the world to arrest the suspect

“The INTERPOL has issued a world-wide red alert on Maina. The notice is based on a request from the EFCC, which on November 18, 2015, wrote to the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, seeking his assistance “to issue an INTERPOL Red Alert” on Maina, who was charged to the Federal High Court on July 10, 2015.

“n a response to the anti-graft agency’s request, Olusola Subair, Commissioner of Police, INTERPOL, in a letter dated January 11, 2016, addressed to the Chairman, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, informed the agency that its request had been processed and a notice duly issued by the INTERPOL."

The letter reads in part ;
“Be informed that the bureau has taken necessary action on the wanted fugitive as requested with INTERPOL General Secretariat, Lyon, France. He has been published on the INTERPOL Red Notice accordingly.”

Maina has been out of public view since 2013 when he was indicted by the Senate Committee on Pension Matters. He was fingered by the committee in the theft of  recovered pension funds to the tune of N28.8 billion.

FAREWELL Chief/lolo/Ezinne/Mrs Ukachi Ekenulo aka hon ukachi amaechi.

Your killer, rogue senator hope uzodinma who wickedly infected you with HIV VIRUS upon which you died of illnesses arising from HIV /AIDS complications which include kidney failure etc, shall not escape the wrath of God....
Though you had no reason to be unfaithful and engage in sordid affairs with such a deplorable man or any other man for that matter ; you have paid the supreme price whereas your dubious divorcee friend and cohort chidinma uwajumogu former Mrs chidinma Ibe-Ejiogu who encouraged you to pull out of your marriage and join her on the street of prostitutes in high places in the name of politics and the man who infected you are all alive. But before God,their days are numbered.
I didn't marry you as a poor man and didn't marry you from a rich home. I was already a millionaire besides coming from a wealthy home when I married you.
I trained you at Uni jos and ensured you graduated. As a student and my wife you lived in a four bedroom bungalow at jos with all the comfort therein with our kids Adaku, Osinachi, Ebubechi though Ebubechi and our last child later died mysteriously of HIV.
I graciously allowed you to pursue vacations in youth activism and politics which i single handedly provided the financial implications and logistics and where necessary the contact and influence. My only crime was that ,I had to upbraid you when I ought to ,especially when I discovered that ; your friend chidinma was not a good woman and a divorcee hence I didn't want you to join the dangerous club of divorcee women in politics.
I loved you as my wife and took very good care of you and our kids.
Needless to emphasize others.
I pray God to forgive you and accept your soul . RIP

Senator demands fair trial for 'anti government' lecturer

Senator Danjuma Laah of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, representing Kaduna South Senatorial Zone, has called for a fair trial of outspoken perceived anti-government Political Science teacher at the Kaduna State University, KASU, Dr. John Danfulani.

The lecturer whose detention had generated a lot of controversy was granted bail on Monday by a Kaduna Chief Magistrate Court with stringent conditions.

Senator Laah in a statement issued on Monday cautioned against denying the fiery teacher a fair trial.

“I have been observing the circumstances and other developments before and after the arrest of Dr. Johh Danfulani. I want to say that there has been a lot of politics and social uproar that this has attracted.

“As the Senator who represents Danfulani at the Senate, I am watching how the judiciary is handling this case. Without prejudice to the competence of our Judicial arm of government in Kaduna State, I want to caution that political and social pressure should not come to bear on him to deny him fair trial, " he said.

We transferred Mbaka to make him more useful- Church

The Catholic Church has explained that the transfer of firebrand priest, Fr Ejike Mbaka from Enugu Parish to Emene is to make him more useful.

In the words of the Secretary-General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Reverend Father Ralph Madu, Mbaka's transfer was not a punishment but a normal church procedure.

“Mbaka’s transfer  is not an exception; the Bishop has the right to post any priest wherever he feels his service would be more useful to the church.

“ His posting should have been a privilege, not a punishment – which the Bishop can do because he has the power.

“If he (Mbaka) says it’s a punishment, then it’s open for further investigation. Posting is a regular thing, a priest can be transferred after two, three, four, or more years. It depends on the discretion of the Bishop.

“That ministry (Adoration Ministry) is his private ministry. It does not belong to the church. Overseeing a parish is a full time job. Overseeing a ministry is a bigger task. If the church decides to take him somewhere where he’ll have more time to carry out his ministry, how is it punitive? That should not be the language.

“He is supposed to be a missionary. What if the Bishop had closed down the ministry , which is within his power to do? Sometimes, transfers can be for the good of the priest as something can be going wrong which he might not be aware of. The Bishop is free to move any priest at any time, it is his prerogative.”

A lot of public outcry has greeted the transfer of Mbaka from the GRA Enugu Parish where he has developed a huge following.

He is expected to assume duties immediately at his new parish.

Minister accuses Jonathan administration of buying substandard weapons

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Monday in Abuja described the weapons procured by the Jonathan administration as substandard.

He argued that such substandard weapons could not have been responsible for the recent successes of the military in counter insurgency operations.

Mohammed said that the statement attributed to former President Goodluck Jonathan in which he claimed that the weapons he left behind were responsible for the military's recent successes was unfortunate.

He stressed that the present administration owes Nigerians a duty to put the records straight since the issues raised by the former president were matters of public interest.

His words:
“The weapons, munitions and equipment which the former president said he bought were refurbished and lacked the basic components and spare parts. Additionally, the ammunition bought for both high calibre and small weapons have mostly expired, are incompatible with weapons and grossly inadequate.

“It is pertinent to state that the ammunition he was referring to were back loaded because they explode within the barrel when fired, thus leading to deaths and injuries among soldiers.

“The situation was so pathetic that soldiers were often transported in Civilian JTF vehicles, civilian vehicles, trailers and water tankers when going to the theatres of operation.

“The revelations on the sorry state of things in the past, which have emanated from the investigative panel so far, point clearly to the kind of legacy bequeathed to this administration by the past government.

”That explains why troops remained largely static and were unable to effectively deploy to completely rout the Boko Haram terrorists in all their known enclaves.

“The high-level of casualties sustained by our gallant soldiers was most unprecedented and cannot be compared to any known military operations in recent times, all because of the terrible state of affairs suffered by the military under the Jonathan administration.

“It is also clear, as has been shown so far by the outcome of the panel probing past arms deals, that the purchase of substandard weapons apparently resulted from the massive corruption that enveloped the deals, the kind of horrifying graft that saw the purchase of refurbished choppers that lacked rotors, or fighter jets that could not be deployed to the theatre of war because they were not up to par.

“The needless loss of lives of many of our gallant troops, resulting from the lack of standard weaponry and low morale in the past, is not a matter to be trivialised under any circumstance.”
