78 Year-old Man Slits Own Throat In Kano

78 years old Hassan Ciroma met his painful end on Monday when he reportedly slit his own throat at an abattoir in Kano City.

Eyewitnesses said that the septuagenarian was earlier sighted at the blacksmithing section of the market where he was said to have purchased a butchery knife.

“We mistook him as one of the numerous butchers plying their trade, but we were shocked soon as he turned the same knife against himself,” said an eyewitness.

He added that the man's grotesque cry of agony triggered pandemonium among the people in the market, most of whom did not have the stomach to watch the bizarre scene.

However, Vanguard reports that the Police are viewing the incident from a different perspective.

Kano State Police Command's spokesman, ASP Magaji Musa Majia told Vanguard ;

: “We rushed to the scene and met the septuagenarian in his pool of blood, rushed him to the nearest medical facility where he gave up the ghost.

“We are working on two leads and the likely outcome of our investigation would certainly reveal whether it is suicide or otherwise.”

He added that the command had deposited the remains of the deceased at the hospital for autopsy.

How Adultery With Friend's Wife Landed 21 Year-old Man In Hospital

21 year-old Onyebuchi Orima of Ugbona village in Ishieke community, Ebonyi State, Nigeria is battling for his life in a prayer house after a sexual encounter with his friend's wife.

THE NATION'S correspondent gathered that Onyebuchi had been having an illicit affair with the woman to the chagrin of his friend, Friday Nwankwo.

Reports have it that after their latest escapade, Onyebuchi developed severe pains in his manhood. He was taken to some local hospitals for treatment but to no avail.

The persistent pains forced Onyebuchi to a prayer house as a last resort. There he was said to have confessed his adulterous relationship with his friend's wife to the Pastor who advised him to equally confess to his friend, Friday Nwankwo in order to salvage his deteriorating health.

After the confession was made, Friday reportedly gave Onyebuchi a bill of two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250,000.00)  to reverse the spell which had been cast on his manhood.

Friday Nwankwo said he contacted a witch doctor to prepare the spell when he discovered that his friend had been sleeping with his wife.

Saraki's Suite: Appeal Court Adjourns Indefinitely

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Monday declared an indefinite adjournment in Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki's suit seeking to stop the Federal Government from proceeding with its case against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Saraki is accused of false declaration of assets while he was the governor of Kwara State.

The Court of Appeal had slated Monday for judgment as to whether Saraki should face trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, but surprisingly, a senior registrar at the court told all parties to the case that the matter had been adjourned indefinitely. 

No reason was given for the adjournment.  Also, lawyers, journalists and other interested persons who had besieged the court premises could not access the courtroom as the main entrance was locked.

N700m Job Levies: EFCC Grills Abba Moro For 8 Hours

Former Interior Minister, Mr Abba Moro was the guest of EFCC for eight hours on Tuesday.

Operatives of the anti graft agency questioned him over the management of the 700 million naira collected from candidates who applied for recruitment into Nigeria Immigration Service in 2014.

Moro's interrogation is expected to continue on Thursday.

The EFCC had earlier quizzed former Comptroller-General of Immigration Service, Mr. David Parradang and the Secretary to the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prison Service Board, Mr. Sylvanus Tapgun on the same subject matter.

How FG Revived 14 Vehicle Assembly Plants

The Federal Government has revived the 14 vehicle assembly plants which operated before the National Automotive Policy.

This was disclosed in Lagos on Tuesday by the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr Aminu Jalal during a stakeholders meeting of the Committee on implementation of the National Automotive Policy.

He said that the new entrants into the automobile manufacturing business were equally doing well.

He disclosed that government was in talks with a bank over a vehicle financing scheme to help Nigerians purchase made in Nigeria cars without hassles.

He said that government had to break the operations of the assembly plants into three because of the huge investments needed to set them up.

His words ;
“The reason why we break the assembly operations into three is that a new vehicle assembly plant is quite expensive to set up.

“If you are setting it up, the minimum you can do will cost you over $50 million (N11 billion)for about 10,000 units per year.

“After about a year, they start with SKD 2 (Semi-Knocked Down), which is a painted body, bringing in the internal and external fittings.

“Then you move to SKD1 where you have a body that is not painted, you have to paint it and so on.

“Then you move to CKD 1 (Completely- Knocked-Down) when you have to weld all the pieces together, paint and do the assembly.

“That is a transition in 12 months to the next phase."

Jalal added that while Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company and Ashok-Leyland have achieved CKD status, other assembly plants were at different levels of development.

Mrs Buhari Advises Women On Healthcare

Mrs Aisha Buhari, wife of the President has advised Nigerian women, especially expectant and nursing mothers to avail themselves of proper medical attention to avoid exposure to unnecessary health hazards.

Mrs Buhari spoke through a speech delivered by the wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs Monica Ugwuanyi at the Oji River General Hospital during her advocacy and community sensitization visit there.

She expressed sadness over the rate of maternal mortality during pregnancy and child delivery and stressed the need for precautionary measures to remedy the situation.

She advised all pregnant women to avail themselves of antenatal services for the good of themselves and their unborn children.
