Suicide Bomber Kills 30 In Maiduguri Mosque

About 30 persons were killed on Thursday night when a male suicide bomber triggered two bomb blasts inside a mosque at Molai on the outskirts of Maiduguri city.

According to eye witnesses, Muslim Faithfuls were observing the Magrib prayers when the suicide bomber walked in some minutes after 6pm and detonated the deadly devices.

According to one of the eyewitnesses,
“People started running up and down, motorists and keke NAPEP operators rushed out of the area with their families. There was confusion everywhere. The sound caused panic among everyone around the area.

“You need to see how residents were running, some even had to park their belongings and leave the area as nobody knows what will happen next. But we are yet to get the details of what happened and how many people were killed and how many were wounded exactly. But I gathered that about 30 people have died in the attack.”

Buhari Meets Abdulsalam Abubakar In Presidential Villa

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalam Abubakar behind closed doors at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The former military ruler arrived Aso Rock for the meeting at about 3.30pm and left after about thirty minutes.

The subject matter of their discussion was not disclosed as Abdulsalam refused to speak with journalists after the meeting.

USA Deploys Troops, Drones To Cameroun To Support M-NJTF

The United States of America is deploying 300 troops along with surveillance drones to support the Multi-National Joint Task Force, M-NJTF in its task of defeating insurgency.

President Barack Obama told Congress that an advance force of about 90 military personnel began deploying on Monday to Cameroon, with the approval of the Yaounde government.

He said ;
"The troops will conduct airborne intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations in the region.

“These forces are equipped with weapons for the purpose of providing their own force protection and security, and they will remain in Cameroon until their support is no longer needed."

The American troops are expected to deploy to Garoua, a boundary town on the border with Nigeria.

Vice President, Governors Meet At Presidential Villa

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday hosted the National Economic Council, NEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. In attendance were state governors and other members of the Council.

Osinbajo arrived the Council Chamber venue of the meeting which was held behind closed doors at about 11.30 am.

THE NATION reports that the meeting will be deliberating on
the remaining aspects of the bailout funds for states, refund of money spent on Federal roads by state governments and updates on the investigation of excess crude account under the last administration.

Governors present at the commencement of the meeting were those of Delta, Adamawa, Lagos, Zamfara, Kwara, Anambra, Rivers (Deputy), Plateau, Nasarawa, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, Ogun, Yobe, Ondo, Imo, Niger, Borno, Benue, Taraba, Oyo, Ebonyi, Abia, Cross River, Kaduna, Osun, Edo, Kebbi and Kogi States.
