Soldiers Kill 10 Insurgents In Okene Gun Battle

Ten suspected Islamic fundamentalists in Okene, Kogi State have died following a shootout with soldiers from Meigumeri barracks, Lokoja.

Following a tip-off, the soldiers reportedly stormed Inike in Okene in the early hours of Tuesday to dislodge the suspects.

Security operatives had earlier traced some of the gunmen who attacked the Lokoja office of the DSS a fortnite ago to the area.

Two soldiers were reportedly injured in the operation while a Mosque and an army pick up truck were destroyed.

Police Nab Two Abuja Bombing Suspects

The Inspector General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase said on Tuesday that the police have arrested two people suspected to have been responsible for the bomb blasts that killed 20 people in Nyanya and Kuje suburbs of Abuja two weeks ago.

The suspects identified as indigenes of Okene area of Kogi State are – Abdulazeez Muhazab (27) and Isiaka Salihu (25).

Speaking during a meeting with senior police officers, IGP Arase said ; “I am elated to confirm that the police has arrested two terror elements that undertook the fatal operation.”

He said that the police recovered 12 already prepared and primed Home Made Explosives  concealed in 12 Fayrouz soft drinks cans, 28 pieces of Electric Detonators and huge quantities of IED-making materials.

Ten Ministerial Nominees Cleared On Tuesday

The Senate on Tuesday cleared 10 of the 21 ministerial nominees submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 30.

Gen.Abdulrahman Danbazzau (rtd); former Special Assistant to the United Nations Secretary General on Post 2015 Development Planning, Amina Ibrahim Mohammed; Suleiman Adamu and Ibrahim Jubril Adamu from Jigawa State.

Alamieyeseigha Was Well Loved By His People - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the late governor of Bayelsa State, DSP Alamieyeseigha as well loved by his people who supported him in good and bad times.

He also described the late governor's demise as a loss not only to Bayelsa State but also to the entire Ijaw people.

In a condolence message signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari encouraged Ijaw people to take heart over the loss of their notable son.

He also urged the late governor's family to see the loss as the will of God.

His words ;
“Former Governor Alamieyeseigha was well loved by his people.

“This love was expressed in the way they supported him through his time in public office, and also in the way they stood by him after he left office,in good times as in bad.”

Senate Calls Off Probe Of Amaechi, Mohammed.

Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has called off its consideration of the petitions  against the nomination of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and Amina Ibrahim Mohammed as ministers.

Port Harcourt based, The Integrity Group, had in its petition to the Senate, alleged fraud and financial impropriety against Amaechi.

The petition which alleged that Amaechi mismanaged 70 billion naira belonging to the people of Rivers State was backed by all the three senators from the state.

Amaechi during a brief meeting with the committee members had informed them that the subject matter of the petition against him was already before a court of competent jurisdiction.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu after listening to Amaechi said that it would be sub-judice to continue to handle the petition.

When the petition against Amina Mohammed came up for discussion, she told the committee to disregard it since she had no connection with Kaduna State as claimed by the petitioners

She said ;
“I was brought up in Kaduna. My father lived there but I have no connection with Kaduna State.  I am an indigent of Gombe State and the assumption is that I would be representing Gombe in the cabinet.”

Buhari Submits Second Ministerial List To Senate

In fulfillment of his pledge to send a second batch of ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday submitted an envelope containing the list of additional nominees to the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki.

The second batch of ministerial nominees was submitted to Saraki by the Chief of Staff to the President, Alhaji Abbah Kyari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang and Hon Rahman Kawu Sumaila.

The Senate President reportedly received the list around 4.20pm.

It is expected that the names of nominees on the list will be disclosed on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday's Plenary.

The Senate will also begin the screening of the first batch of nominees on Tuesday.
