Dance With Peter : Six Finalists Emerge In Abuja

Six finalists emerged from the Abuja leg of the Globacom dance reality show held at the Musa Yar'Adua Center last Friday.

The show tagged "Dance With Peter" saw over 200 dancers compete for the six slots that would determine who moved on to the grande finale in Lagos.

After an electrifying night that threw up spellbinding and mind-boggling moves, the following six dancers emerged.:
Yemi Afolabi Oshokoya, Miracle Chinonso Nelson, Ibrahim Afeez Abiodun, Ameze Blessing Omoregie, ElevatorzNg (a dance group) and Godwin Olokor Oghenebroz

They will join the finalists from other parts of Nigeria and Ghana in Lagos for the grande finale.

USA Marks 500 Days Of Chibok

The government of the United States of America on Monday joined the families of the missing Chibok girls to mark the 500th day of the grim event. It commiserated with the families while assuring of its commitment to the girls' rescue from Boko Haram insurgents.

The militants invaded the hostel of Chibok High School at night in April 2014 and kidnapped 276 girls preparing for their final exams. 50 of the girls later escaped, living about 219 still in captivity.

It is feared that the terrorist group may have resorted to using some of the kidnapped girls for suicide bombings while marrying off some to their commanders.

The United States government which relayed its message through Department of State spokesman, Mr John Kirby restated its commitment to help in the fight against terror through bilateral support and assistance to the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF as well as logistics, training, equipment and counter terrorism assistance programs.

Buhari To Strengthen EFCC, ICPC

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that nobody found guilty of corruption would be spared. He vowed to strengthen the anti corruption agencies EFCC and ICPC for maximum effect.

He said this in an address at the opening ceremony of the 45th Annual Accountants Conference and 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN.

In the address which was delivered by Mrs Anastasia Nwaobia, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance, Buhari decried the lack of prudence, transparency and honesty in the management of public resources which has left Nigerians in poverty.

He called on ICAN to help reverse the ugly trend by prevailing on their members to ensure that government resources are duly and transparently accounted for.

He concluded that Nigerians had no business with poverty given the massive resources at the country's disposal.

“We are at the threshold of history where we must collectively take the destiny of the nation in our hands. As Nigerians, no one can love Nigeria like you and I. On our part, we will continue to lead by example making efforts to live above board.

“As we strive to walk our talk, we will carry to its logical conclusions our initiative to overhaul the bureaucracy of the public sector in an effort to engender transparency and improve productivity in public governance.

“In addition, we will reinvigorate the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission such that the processes of accountability in public governance are reinforced.

“I assure you that persons found wanting will not be spared. " he said.

President of ICAN, Mr Samuel Deru said in his own remarks that integrity and public interest were the foundation on which to build prosperity and good governance.

Troops Retake Gamboru Ngala From Militants

The strategic town of Gamboru Ngala has been retaken from militants by Nigerian troops. The important town which borders Cameroon and Niger fell after  fierce fighting.

According to Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col Sani Usman confirmed the routing of the Boko Haram terrorists from the town.

“The Nigerian Army has retaken the economic and strategic town of Gamboru Ngala, Borno State, from the Boko Haram terrorists group today (yesterday). The triumphant troops are now busy with clearing and mopping up patrols.”

In another development, Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai has assured of the imminent defeat of Boko Haram, despite random attacks by the militant group.

He gave the assurance while receiving Major General Juarez Alvez Pereira Jr., Brazil's Deputy Chief of Army Staff for International and Special Affairs
Buratai requested support from Brazil in training Nigerian troops especially in jungle warfare.

Dasuki Docked, Granted Bail

Justice Adeniyi Ademola of an Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday granted bail to former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki on self recognition. Dasuki had been arraigned before the court by the Federal Government on one count charge of illegal possession of firearms.

When the charge was read to him, Dasuki pleaded not guilty. According to the prosecution, the offense violets the provisions of 27(1)(a) (i) of the Firearms Act, Cap 28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Ruling on the bail application, Justice Ademola ordered the defendant to deposit his diplomatic passport and other travel documents with the court's Deputy Registrar.,  Litigations as the only condition for bail.

The court also ordered the Federal Government to submit any of the defendant's travel documents which might be in its possession to the court.

On July 16, 2015, a search by the state police on Dasuki's residences in Abuja and Sokoto led to the recovery of seven high caliber assault rifles with ammunitions and accessories and twelve brand new cars among which were five bulletproof vehicles.

Hearing in the case will continue on October 26 and 27.

Akpabio Flies Abroad After Car Crash

In the aftermath of Monday's collision with an American embassy van at the Bolingo Junction, Abuja, former governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio was on Tuesday flown out of the country in a private jet.

Akpabio was seen boarding a private jet with some of his aides at the general aviation terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja around 12.40 pm. He boarded the aircraft on his own and did not look sick.

It was not confirmed whether the trip is for medical reasons or a continuation of his earlier trip to see his family abroad which was aborted by the car crash. Akpabio had been hurrying to the airport on Monday morning when he crashed into a USA embassy van after disobeying the traffic light.

He reportedly sustained injuries in the chest area and was treated at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Eagles Train Behind Closed Doors Ahead Of Tanzania Clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been training behind closed doors at the National Stadium in Abuja for maximum concentration.

However, team spokesman Toyin Ibitoye said yesterday that fans would be allowed to watch the three time African champions' training for just 15 minutes on Wednesday.

Coach Sunday Oliseh will on Thursday depart Nigeria for Tanzania with a team of 23 players for Saturday's encounter with that country's national team, the Taifa Stars.

The match which will be the Super Eagles' second game in Gabon 2017 Africa cup of Nations qualifiers is Oliseh's first as national team coach.

In their first match, the Eagles defeat Chad 2-0 in Kaduna under the guidance of former coach Stephen Keshi. A victory in Dar es Salaam will put the Eagles in pole position to qualify for Gabon 2017

The Super Eagles as defending champions missed the last edition of the competition when they failed to qualify.
